The Time Billionaire: A Concept That Changed My Life

Hey everyone and welcome back to The Productivity Blueprint newsletter 🗞️

Today, we’re looking at how we value our limited time. Sahil Bloom introduces a powerful mental shift that challenges the way most of us measure success, urging us to see time not as something to fill, but as a form of wealth we’re constantly spending. Once you start viewing your life in seconds instead of schedules, your priorities begin to change in ways that feel both grounding and eye-opening.

“Time is your most precious asset.”

Graham Duncan

Sahil Bloom’s idea of the Time Billionaire, introduced to him by investor Graham Duncan, reframes how we value our lives. According to Duncan, a billion seconds is roughly 31 years, meaning younger people literally carry “time wealth” most of us never acknowledge.

Bloom compares our cultural obsession with money to ignoring this incredible time currency. We idolize financial billionaires, but rarely think of ourselves as holding time billions.

Drawing from Stoic philosopher Seneca, Bloom highlights how life isn’t inherently short, it’s our misuse and misunderstanding of time that makes it so. He points out that true time wealth comes not just from having seconds left, but from awareness, presence, and deliberate choices about how to spend them.

He also shares a powerful personal moment: after a conversation with an older man while walking with his newborn son, Sahil felt a clear shift, a sense that he already had enough.

Bloom closes with a reminder: time is the ultimate currency. We can’t get it back, so we ought to spend it wisely, with people we love, doing the things we’ll never regret.

TL/DR: We’re all born as “Time Billionaires” with billions of seconds, but too many of us never realize it. Time is finite and infinitely precious — treat it like your most valuable currency, and choose how you spend it intentionally.

A visual calendar that breaks your life down into weeks, giving a clear view of time passed and time left.

What we love: Seeing how many “weeks” you have left makes time feel more real - helping you make more meaningful decisions, not just “busy” ones.

A beautifully designed digital journaling app that helps you log how you spend your time, reflect on your day, and capture meaningful moments - all in one private, organized space.

What we love: It makes you consciously aware of where your time is actually going, helping you spot patterns between what feels fulfilling versus what quietly drains your energy, turning reflection into real clarity.

đź’ˇ Challenge of the week

Design a “time audit”: for the next 5 days, track how you spend each hour (or 30-minute block) using a simple notebook, Notion, or your phone.

Then:

At the end of each day, note one moment you wish you’d “spent more like a billionaire”, a moment you’d be okay spending more time on if you had more.

At the end of the week, reflect: Where did you feel “richest” in time? Where did you feel like you were squandering seconds? Based on that, pick one way to reallocate your time next week to reflect what matters most.

You are a Time Billionaire… whether you feel like it or not. By shifting how you think about your seconds, you can start investing your time with intention, presence, and purpose. Your richest moments are those lived, not earned.
